IMPORT-ANT SAM Puppy Sam came in after a big day out, walked up to his father, and popped that dreadful question "Hey dad, where did I come from?" Old Stud Sam stopped reading his latest Kennel Gazette mid-sentence and it quickly fell to the floor. Escape was uppermost in his mind, but that was hardly an option with his young son standing expectantly in front of him. Sizzling sausage dogs, he thought to himself, I hadn't expected this yet. Getting slowly to his paws, he gave his body a time-wasting stretch, shook determinedly, and said in what he considered his most fatherly voice " I'm really glad you asked me that, son. It's time we had a good talk." Young Puppy Sam was somewhat puzzled by his father's serious tone, but he happily climbed up beside his dad and made himself comfortable. Stud Sam drew in his breath, let it out slowly, and began "Okay mate, we'd better start at the beginning. Um.....er... now, how can I put this to make it easily understood for you? Um...... Do you remember when our owner's cat had kittens? Now the same thing happened with your mum..." Seeing the suddenly surprised eye-boggled expression appear on his young son's face, Stud Sam explained "Oh well, not exactly the same, I mean.... She had to mate with another dog, a Samoyed...um... with me. I mean... she and I...we...well, it was like this... ah... your mother came to visit me, we romped in the garden, sniffed around, and explored different places. Your mother was wearing such an attractive perfume...and...well she quite swept me off my feet, and the next thing we knew you were born." Suffering saints, save all Samoyed sinners, he thought as he breathed a huge sigh of relief, and hoped that explanation would satisfy pestering Puppy Sam for now. Smiling in a self-satisfied way which is common to stud sams, he asked "Now, is everything clear now, Puppy Sam?" Poor Puppy Sam was completely bewildered, and even wondered if stud work was getting far too stressful for his father. "Sorry dad, but I just don't get it, and you haven't even begun to answer my question. Me and the guys were talking after the Champ Show today. Taz Sam said he came from Australia, Tex Sam said he came out from America, and Londy Sam reckons he came from England. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHERE I CAME FROM!!!!" |
