Although we have had Samoyeds since 1982, the first bitch we owned who we decided was of a standard that we wished to base our line on was one born in 1990 who was named NZ Ch Kokoda Artic Whisper (Sheba) whom we loved and campaigned right through her long career. She was the matriarch of our kennel and was still winning challenges, best of breed and higher awards into her fourteenth year.

She won her first Best In Show at a Specialty Show at the age of 17 months, and her fourth at another Specialty Show at the age of 9 years 11 months in the year 2000.

Sheba still holds the record for the most challenge certificates won by a Samoyed bitch in New Zealand, gaining this recognition in 1998 when she earned her 76th challenge, breaking a record that had been held since 1976. She has four Best In Shows to her credit, three of them at Specialty Shows in 1991,1994 and 2000, and the other at an All-breeds Open Show in 1997.

We only bred Sheba once, and out of that litter campaigned a dog, NZ Ch Elanra Al Nilam (Nilam), and a bitch, NZ Ch Elanra Novasna (Novas). Both of them have many group and In Show titles to their credit.

Novas became our second brood bitch, and we are showing all four of her litter and they have all received challenge certificates. NZ Ch Elanra Astronova Ashken (Astro), wih many Group and In Show awards, earned his title in February 2001, and is frequently beaten by his own sons. He had his first Best In Show at a Specialty Show in 2001. NZ Ch Elanra Supanova Sabria (Saby) had her title by the age of 17 months, and has many Group and In Show awards to her credit. Elanra Vasna Davodd (Davy) still is working towards his championship, although he also has Group and In Show awards, and lastly NZ Ch Elanra Vasna Diandra (Deedee), who earned her first Reserve Best In Show at a Specialty Show at the tender age of 11 months, and Best In Specialty Show in 2002.

Astro has been mated three times to a daughter of Nilam, Lia. Out of the first litter we kept a son, Elanra Star Commander (Sirius) who, although not achieving great recognition as a puppy, matured nicely and achieved Best Of Breed in three outings on end and is a beautiful biscuit boy.

Out of the second litter we kept another son, Elanra Tunza Spirit (Tunza) who has five Baby Puppy Of Group and three Baby Puppy In Show awards to his credit. He has only been lightly campaigned since then but is the sire of two beautiful youngsters.

Out of the third litter we kept a little daughter, Elanra Just Star Whisper (Shayla), who only had six shows as a Baby Puppy and earned Baby Puppy In show at four of them.

In November, 2000, the fifth generation of Elanra Samoyeds was born with the sire being Elanra Tunza Spirit mated to his aunty NZ Ch Elanra Supanova Sabria. We have two of their progeny here with us, a dog, Elanra Spirit of Aldebaran (Travis), and a bitch, Ch. Elanra Supanova Rigel (Trinity), fulfilling a dream of being able to show five generations at the same time. We have no doubt that they will be as successful as their ancestors.

In June, 2002, this fifth generation was added to. We have a little bitch, Elanra Staravasna Shiraz. Her sire is Elanra Star Commander and her dam is our latest Best In Specialty Show winner, NZ Ch Elanra Vasna Diandra.

Our Samoyeds share our life with us and all sleep indoors, play indoors and out, and their favourite game is just like any other youngsters, playing chasey from the front garden, through the house, around and around the conservatory and out the back.
